Minor quake strikes off Sri Lanka A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck close to Sri Lanka early this morning but did not cause any damages nor was there a threat of a tsunami. The earthquake at 02.33 a.m. local time had a preliminary magnitude of 6.0 and was centered about 1,151 kilometers (716 miles)
Knock-out cut-outs Inspector General of Police Mahinda Balasuriya yesterday issued firm directions to all Senior DIGs and DIGs of the nine provinces to get the Officers in Charge of Police Stations to remove all cut-outs and hoardings of political party candidates with immediate effect.

Sri Lankan Civilians Use Highway Closed for 24 Years During War

Dec. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Sri Lanka let civilians use the main highway to the northern Jaffna peninsula for the first time in 24 years as the government tries to rebuild the region after defeating the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in May.
